Cartmel Valley 'Lions' Baseball Club was founded in 1993 and we currently field 3 youth teams in the North West League.  Boys and girls play T-ball (aged 6 to 10 years), Bronco baseball (10 to 13 years) and Pony baseball (13 to 16 years).

Practices (Thursdays 6.30 pm) and home matches (Saturdays) are played at Cartmel Priory School.  In 2010 games are being played against teams from Bolton, Halton, Menwith Hill, Manchester and Northwich

In 2009 Bronco and Pony Teams played in the Final Four in London (ie top 2 teams from north and south England.) Our Pony team came 2nd and our (very young) Bronco team came 4th.  In 2008 we hosted the National Youth Baseball Final Four Championship and were U13 (Bronco) National Champions and U16 (Pony) Runners Up. The Pony and Rookie teams also won the Frank Caunce Trophies in their age group.  In 2007 the Bronco and Pony teams again made it to the finals held in London. In 2006 we were U13 (Bronco) National Champions and U16 (Pony) Runners Up and our Rookie (T-Ball) team also won the Frank Caunce Trophy.

A number of our players attend winter training at Great Britain Academy near Oxford and Regional Academy training in Lymm, Manchester.  For the past 3 years we have also benefited from visiting American and Canadian expert coaches.  Some of our players have also been selected for Great Britain and played at International Tournaments and European Championships.

We welcome anyone interested in playing, coaching or just watching to come along on training nights or to games.    We are committed to working with local schools to promote the development of baseball in the South Lakes area and introducing children to the discipline and philosophy of the game of baseball.

We have a Welfare Officer and work to all Baseball Softball UK (BSUK) national policies for Child Protection, Equity, Rules and Codes of Conduct.  In 2008 we achieved the Sport England 'Clubmark' accreditation.

In 2009 we have received grants from Cumbria Youth Alliance and ‘Get Qualified in Sport’ towards courses for coaches and providing a Teeball course for local schoolchildren. In 2008 we also received grants from South Lakeland District Council and Cumbria Playing Fields Association.    In 2007 we were awarded major grants from the Cumbria Community Foundation and Neighbourhood Forum towards investment in club facilities, equipment and uniform.

We have also received generous sponsorship from local businesses (see links).
