National Finals 2009 Pony Runners up

Congratulations to everyone who made the trip to London where we enjoyed another good weekend at Finsbury Park, home of the London Mets.

Our young Bronco team had London worried when we were 3 up after 3 innings in our semifinal but the strong London team came back to win and put us into the playoff with Halton. Another great game against our regular Northern rivals didn’t go our way despite a monster home run and some excellent hits from the younger players on the team.

Our Pony team – one of our strongest teams ever – had to prove themselves against the up and coming Horsham team and did just that in their semi, coming back from 12 – 3 down in the 4th to win 13 – 12 and a place in the Final.     The Final was a struggle against our old adversaries Bracknell and history did unfortunately repeat itself as we took the runners up prize for the 3rd time in 4 years.

New Backstop Thanks to a grant of nearly £3000 from the Cumbria Community Foundation we can look forward to having a new purpose built metal and wire backstop installed at half term. AK Fencing (that’s Harvey’s dad) will be providing an impressive structure to replace our bent poles and sagging net!

Cartmel Coach in Canada James Pearson has just returned from 2 weeks at Durham College, Ontario in Canada where he has been as a MLB Envoy assistant coach with Sam Dempster. He enjoyed training with the team, learning new drills, as well as going on a road trip for a weekend of away games and working at the college sports facilities. He also met and did some work with ex Major League players at their own training facilities. So look out for some tough training sessions next season!
