TRAINING
– Winter Training (indoors) on Thursday evenings 6.30 pm at Cartmel Priory School from 1 October 2009 and Spring Training (outdoors) from April, every Thursday evening from 6.30 to 8.00 pm. Children should bring suitable warm clothing, footwear and drinks (non-fizzy). They should also bring their own hat and glove. Sun protection cream may also be advisable. Jewellery must not be worn. Parents are welcome to stay and watch, and join in! We especially need parents to come along and get involved with the running of the club.GAMES – are played most Saturdays from May to July both at home and away. Games schedule for 2010 is not yet agreed, but when finalised will be on the Teams page. Parents usually take it in turns to transport to these fixtures - which in 2009 were Bolton, Halton, Manchester, Menwith Hill and Rudheath. Contributions towards transport costs are usually offered.
UNIFORM - most uniform is provided but some personal items are also necessary.
Club game shirt (provided)
Black baseball pants (provided)
Black undershirt/T-shirt (optional)
Socks (gold provided) or black
Club Hat (£5.00, available from Club)
Footwear, baseball cleats – moulded soles, football boots or similar (No metal studs)
Helmets are provided by the club and must be used when batting.
EQUIPMENT
The baseball glove or mitt used for fielding is essentially a personal item of equipment so all players should purchase their own. Gloves vary considerably in price and quality. A good leather glove starting at approx £35 can last for many years if looked after. Ask a coach for advice on types of gloves and suppliers. The club does have a few gloves which can be borrowed by younger players when they first try the game.
An athletic protector (box) should be worn by male club participants.
Battings gloves are another useful personal item of equipment offering good grip on the bat handle and preventing some of the ‘sting’ when hitting then ball.
Some players like to purchase their own bats but these are provided by the club. Again they vary in length, quality and cost – please ask a coach for advice. The bat must be an approved type to use in a league game.
SUBSCRIPTION
Annual subscription costs includes registration fees and insurance. The cost is subsidised by the club through fundraising activities. Fees are due by 1 April with completed Registration Form (right-click and click Print Target). Cheques payable to ‘Cartmel Valley Baseball Club’.
